People are now in the streets … around the world. Sure, as a percentage of the population or even the people that should be out there totally pissed off, it is a small crowd. But a significant one nonetheless. And one that will continue to grow — no matter what the governments do.
It has been obvious for a long time, perhaps even multiple decades, that America was going down the drain. Perhaps, from the moment that Actor Ronald Reagan fired those air traffic controllers in 1980s and declared war on unions and working class people. Perhaps, it was Citizens United decision from the Nazi Supremes that was the final straw. Or maybe it was banksters getting bailed out as corporations stockpiles $BILLIONS, if not $TRILLIONS, throughout the world as they campaign for yet another tax holiday.
Now that the people are in the streets, the more interesting thing will now occur. What to do about this mess. My guess is that politicians, and the rich will not really understand what the problem is.
Obama, for starter, will try and seize on the happenings to get elected again. But this Bozo is ill equipped to actually get us out of this mess, or even start the process. Obama is so busy bending over for Republicans that he has literally lost any progressive ideas he ever had. Sure, the Repugs might put up somebody so despicable that Obama gets elected. But the sad truth is, he is not going to solve this problem.
The Repugs will ridicule the “thugs” in the street and want to build more privatized prisons to continue to protect their oversized piece of the pie. They will fail to understand that the country is only as strong as the collective wage earners. Taking away the ability for people to support themselves is the ultimate reason this society will fail. No doubt these clowns are trying to manufacture some huge crisis to refocus the attention away from the increase poverty and working poor.
No … don’t expect any solutions from our elected clowns.
But, here is not just a solution … here is the ONLY solution.
The government should declare that every person will receive a job and/or sufficient income to support him/herself and their dependents. About that time, the financial system will collapse and the government needs to let it happen. Create a new method of conducting commerce, perhaps purchase cards that let every citizens buy food and get housing — eliminate all other forms of money. Basically, usher in full fledge democratic socialism. Every citizen will be required to work and jobs will be created as necessary. People will be trained as needs arise. Banks will be nationalized, along with all other basic necessities, e.g. food, transportation, and health care. In doing this, the government will destroy the rich and all the money and things they have worked long hours to achieve. Because, in the process of raping the citizenry, the rich destroyed the country.
That’s it … in just a few sentences … what needs to be done. Yet, we know this is not going to happen. It never really happens this way. The more likely scenario is things will continue to get worse and eventually there will be class war between the rich and everybody else. We can call it the war of the 99%, or even the 99.9%.
America is Doomed.
While I do agree that America is going down the tubes (doomed is a little harsh), I don’t agree with your “democratic socialism” solution. “The old way of doing things has failed forever” – no way, sir.
In your Democratic Socialist society, people are free to do what they please…but carry around GOVERNMENT issued cards (“freebies” in socialist terms) that buy them food and housing? And, the government will appoint and create jobs as necessary?
…This is not freedom. Let me remind you that America was founded on the grounds of liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Having these tax-payer paid benefits does not liberate an individual nor does it help him/her in any way. It only ties them down and keeps them from living to their full potential.
