Yes, indeed, America is Doomed but in the process it has turned into one fucked up place.
We have a totally clueless President … one who keeps clamoring about this “JOBS” plan which will create no jobs. He is “getting tough” with the Repugs, saying they are hurting the economy. Yet, neither the President nor Congress will do what is really required to get start the very long process of creating jobs — create Demand. Guarantee every person income and jobs. Let the government pay to put people back to work, whether that be in non-profits or working for the government. Stop allowing corporations and rich people to pay little taxes while exporting jobs out of the country.
We now have the Occupy movement, started as Occupy Wall St. Of course, the power went in and arrested 700 of them making it clear who was really in charge of this country. If this is not starting to feel like Nazis coming to power in 1930s Germany, you need to wake up. This country is going down the drain and killing lots of people along the way — whether it be wars or just because we don’t like what somebody believes.
Meanwhile, bankers continue to cause havoc for ordinary Americans while ranking in vast amounts of money for the few at the top. The banks need to be nationalized and eliminated. Wall St needs to be shut down, completely. Both of these stop preforming any useful function a long time ago.
The crazy 2012 who gives a shit who wins election is underway. Some stupid little state decides they must control when the first primary is. Meanwhile, Repugs are running around the country trying to make it harder for people to vote. Citizens United says give as much money as you want to buy your very own politician. Seriously, is this fucked up or what? These are the same son of a bitches who pretend to believe in all things good and right. What a bunch of shit. They are trying to re-segregate the schools in North Carolina. And Alabama has such a harsh immigration law that even legal Latinos are leaving the state — to the delight of the bigoted white assholes who stay.
Health care is a disaster in the country. College is a joke with much of the funding going to for-profit colleges who are not offering any real education anyway. But, given that jobs are not coming back with current policies, just the mere idea of educating oneself for anything is a joke. Public education is hardly that will collapsing schools and teaching to the test mentality.
Meanwhile, the country keeps going through the motions as people get arrested for pointing out just how fucked up America is. Seriously, try and find any area at all that isn’t fucked up. Food? Destroyed in the name of greed. Transportation? Based on burning more and more polluting fossil fuels.
America is Doomed.
America is being Doomed by its short-sighted, materialistic and degraded populace who support an oligarchy with those identical qualities.

Every foul element of our broken State is so woven into the fabric of our nation that disposing the garment would be more feasible than purging the filth. Why bother fixing the leaking hull, when you know the ship is going to sink?
This does not jive at all; I am perplexed that nobody has mentioned foreign investment. You complain you are doomed, as if you were trapped in a corridor with a thousand open doors!

Alternatively, why don’t you trade foreign derivatives and get into the repo business as America’s successors tow away our wealth? Brazil and India, the most prominent of the emerging markets, are rendering unbelievable returns.

Capitalism fails because of its ravenous greed, socialism collapses under the weight of its envy. Both are flawed; there is no perfect system.

Life is complex and we are all under stress, tryinig to do things at a high rate of speed, trying to get it out and get it on. I don’t dump ever on the typos or the mispellings. Just remember that our forefathers were escapists. They escaped from the tyranny and oppression in England, because a few of their brain cells told them that they weren’t going to win. They escaped to a land where they COULD win the fight, and they did. Like our forefathers, I too believe escaping an 800 pound gorilla makes sense.

I myself have always been an escapist. I quit a lucrative job 25 years ago and moved to a remote island. I eat the finest organic food daily, never get sick, have little contact with the outside world and like it that way. Am I facing “the grind” daily. No!! I watch it on the internet. I haven’t had TV for over 20 years now. I don’t like that shit piped in when I turn something on. At least witht the computer, I control it. It has never controlled me.
I mainly work for absentee owners who I rarely see. Don’t much care if I see them or not. But in the last 5 or 6 years my little bastion of lonliness has been invaded. And I mean INvaded. Thank the gods for bank failures and bankruptcy. It bought me a bit more time. Most of the invaders have disappeared now. Most of the numerous real estate for sale signs say “Bank Owned”. Development has completely stopped. Weeds are overgrowing “cleared subdivisions”. One or 2 Spec Houses (unoccupied) waiting for entropy to do it’s thing.
I like Ductile’s spirit and resolve. But I also like my passport and my planned trip to Panama this winter. Yes, the founding fathers ran from immenent destruction. Had they stayed, they would have rotted in an English prison or donated their heads, even though nobody could perform a head transplant.
My “obsinate/defiant” younger brother came to visit me about 2 weeks ago. He was unusually subdued. He looked beaten and worn. Aged. He is considerably younger than me but he lives in the “real world”. From the looks of him it must be a terrible place. I wouldn’t know. I left it so long ago. He told me that he wasn’t ever going to “surrender” but then he asked me if when he retired, if he could come and stay with me for long periods in Panama. Of course, I agreed. He said that he was battle worn and getting tired.
I don’t run either. I guess if they ever back me up into my last escape hatch then the shooting and killing will start. I didn’t want to ever leave here. But I have been and will continue to be invaded, with only short reprieve periods in between. I do not consider it cowerdly to know that David can’t always beat Goliath. There is a saying: ” He who runs away today, lives to fight another day”.
I’ll continue on my course. Living from what the ocean provides, growing most of my green foods, working as hard as I can, drinking weak, cheap beer, interfering in nobody’s business and hoping that they will accord me the same politeness. Everyday I help people far less fortunate than me. I do many things that I will never say. I do not want to sound like some sanctimonious braggart.
Where I live, many people depend on a wild hog or a box of shrimp to get them through. I provide it when I can. I provide firewood to those who simply can’t get their own for various reasons. But our country is fucked up and getting more intercoursed by the day. We are now in the ankle grabbing stages.
I can stay here or I can go where I can spent the rest of my life (maybe and hopefully) without this endless trouble and torment.
Both of you make great sense, as do I. Different strokes for different folks. I hope nobody ever interprets my outlook as a sign of weakness. If they do and attempt to take advantage of me, they the fighter will emerge. And the avenger.

Ductile, I’m going on a foray to Panama before long. Very soon, in fact. No place is perfect but I just know that I can do better than this, and I live in a place that is remote and better than most. The problem is that it won’t hold out much longer. Things ARE looking bad and getting worse. I changed my philosophy from Guns, Gold, and Garden to Guns, Gold, Garden, and Get Away Plan. It is a 4 step program to self preservation and longevity.
