In a recent email conservation with somebody that doesn’t agree with me on many issues, I wrote the following and decided to post it. I get many emails from people but never reveal any personal information.
Abortion is an interesting issue. First, nobody wants abortion, nobody, except maybe sociopaths. Yet, many believe that it should be a woman’s choice. It is a painful decision for a woman.
The problem I have with the so-called pro-life movement is that it is completely inconsistent. If people are really pro-life they should be for universal health care and social programs that protect life and family. Instead, they are frequently greedy, selfish capitalists. They privilege money over humanity, but claim to be pro-life. I know many fundamentalists and they are all for the death penalty — hardly pro-life –, against [universal] health care, and against pretty much everything that isn’t white, christian, and employed. They are about as far away from pro-life as you can get, but they will give you an earful about the evils of abortion. Why? Because they think the bible condemns it which it does not — I wrote about it [several times on] AD long ago.
I am way more pro-life than the fundamentalists that I know. I am opposed to the death penalty and abortion. I am in favor of universal health care, and social programs to help families. I am for adoption and birth control, but also support a woman’s right to decide for herself. I realize people have different religious and personal views and are in a better position to decide than me. But, abortion is the only thing that matters to fundamentalists. Love the fetus, hate the child.
Abortion is another data point there is no god. If abortion represents mass death then where is god? He is nowhere. The same god that claimed to care about each hair on a person’s head. But doesn’t care about repeated mass murder? Seriously, do you not see the absurdity of your god position?
Religious people are brainwashed — they are tied to a belief system and simply stop thinking. This is what makes them mentally ill. They relinquish rational thought — the very definition of mental illness.
I have strong views but I reexamine them all the time. When there is new evidence I can change my view. And I do. For example, I thought Obama was a good guy at one point — not any more. There are many other examples.
America is Doomed.
