This is surprising but there is a poll that shows the Republicans’ opposition to health care is driving people to support it.  Basically, if “Republicans are against it then I am all for it” is the idea.  Conversely, President Obama’s support is driving people to support health care reform.

This seems a natural consequence of the CONSTANT LYING Republicans are engaged in.  The only way people do not realize that the Republicans are CONSTANTLY LYING ABOUT EVERYTHING is if they lack rational judgment and don’t read.  It is so easy to fact check what Republicans say all the time.  Likewise, for Democrats.   Just to be specific, I am not taking about differences of opinions, I am talking about OUT and OUT repeated LIES that Republicans tell all the time.  There are hundreds of examples but I will give you just a few.  Republicans claim that using reconciliation has only been used in the past when there was substantial bipartisan support — TOTAL LIE — Republicans used it for BOTH Bush tax cuts (2001 and 2003) with no democratic support.    Republicans claim that using the “deem and pass” process in the House of Representatives in illegal and unconstitutional, but it has been used over 100 times by Republicans in the last 15 years.

I am NOT even talking about crazy people like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck — these people can hardly get through a thought with a LIE.  I am talking about the Republican Congressional Leadership, e.g. John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Michael Steele.  They are without any moral fabric at all.  They are OUT and OUT liars and their daily talking points are filled with lies.  What must it be like for these people to have a meeting? — “Well, that a good talking point — we can sell that — too bad it is a total lie — but nobody will figure that out.”

This is an exceptional situation because NEVER in the history of this country has there been such a brazen disregard for the truth from one of the political parties.  Again, I am not talking about opinion — I am talking about lying when it is very easy to determine the truth.  For example, it is no secret how many times reconciliation has been used by both parties — I have blogged about it and even shown the historical chart.  But you will hear Republicans lying about it — out and out lies.

This is been going on for a long time and it constantly amazes me how Republicans are “not even unembarrassed” when they get caught.   In fact, Rachel Maddow on MSNBC — my favorite political talking head — did a segment that just focused on the fact that Republicans are not even embarrassed by their lies — night after night, one whopper after another.   She is excellent questioning people, calling them out of their lies, and doing follow-up fact checking on their lies.  Go on Rachel’s show and if you LIE she will point it out.   In contrast, go on  Fox News and the anchors will not only let you lie, they will confirm your lies.  It is breathtaking, no matter what your political point of view is.  Shocking.  Unbelievable.

And to think, Republicans have all this support from religious people.  I hate religions — everybody who reads AD knows this — but all religion privilege TRUTH.   Many religions go out of their way to claim they are the TRUTH.  Truth matters to religious people because who wants to base their life on a lie?  So, how do religious people tolerate the LYING from the Republicans?   Seriously, this seems like a parallel universe.

Before one reads and says Democrats lies, let me deal with it.  If a Democrat, any Democrat, tells a whopper — an out and out lie, it will be pointed out by liberals in  blogs and media.  Rachel Maddow will point it out.  The Huffington Post and the Daily Kos will point it out.  The people who make the lie will be respected less — they will not get away with lying.  I am liberal, even a socialist, and will always point out when somebody lies — I don’t care what party they are in.  However, the reality is the Republicans constantly lie and Democrats lie much, much less.   I know of no example when a Democrat made the same lie, over and over again, when it could easily be shown to be a lie.  Anybody — give me one example.  Even when Clinton lied about Lewinsky, he later had to tell the truth and this lie had nothing to do with going to war in Iraq.  Yet, George W Bush has never recanted that he lied about weapons of mass destruction — not to mention Dark Vader Cheney (or his daughter) who love to lie and distort.

I guess the notion that America is Doomed needs no other proof if you establish that one of the major political parties does not mind LYING about everything.  And, of course, not all lies are equal.  Consider the LIE that was told by every high ranking person in the Bush Administration that there was NO DOUBT — that’s what they said over and over again — there are weapons of mass destruction — specifically nuclear weapons — in Iraq.  This LIE led America into a war longer than World War II and one that continues to this day.   This lie has consequences but — here’s the thing — all lies have consequences.  And if America can’t value the truth, there is no hope — none.
