I frequently go to a coffee shop near my house to relax and write. However, I am frequently confronted with the tables of bible thumbers. They are 8 or more, talk loudly, pray outloud, and frequently political — with a very right wing point of view. The groups that trouble me the most are the young people — delusional, mimicking their parents no doubt. I know the country has no future with the likes of these.

When did it become ok to publically pray and display religious nonsense? So, I decided to speak to one such group and explain this would be more appropriate at a private home or church. I explained I am an atheist and don’t sit around and proclaim my lack of belief. I even point out that Jesus held events and didn’t disrupt public establishments.

This group didn’t respond politely. I got plenty of going to pray for you. How this was a free country and all. Asked how they would feel about laying down a prayer rug and pointing toward Mecca? They said this is a Christian country. I laughed and explained it is a secular country which means I come closer to representing the default belief set — not some silly Christian mythology.

I asked them if they really believed that Jesus was god’s son and he could forgive sins. Of course. The answer was yes. I asked them if they believed in talking donkeys? The answer was no but one person wasn’t sure. I explained it’s in your bible. Some discussion and then somebody said god could do anything. Sure. Since you are making it all up god could be or do anything. Well. Jesus liked and molested children I proclaimed. I quoted a couple of passages about not preventing the children from coming to me.

So. If god exists tell him to strike me dead because I think he is responsible for all the evil, pain and destruction in the world. In a phase — he is one evil bastard.

I finished by asking them who they wanted to be President?
