America is NOT a democracy, at least not any more. Perhaps, it was at one time but what does it matter? We live in the present and look toward the future — not the past contrary to what the ‘America is a christian nation’ crown seem to thing. As it is makes any difference what some dead white men, aka Founding Fathers — no Mothers please, meant when the Constitution was ratified. In any case, those people would not recognize the America of today — blacks and women are voting but nobody’s vote really counts. Power and money is the only ballot in this America.
The power in the country doesn’t even believe in democracy. Have you noticed the phase ‘a simple majority’ — it isn’t a simply majority — it is a MAJORITY. That is nothing simple about it. A MAJORITY is never diminished or qualified — it is a MAJORITY. Democracy is based on a MAJORITY, not a super majority or another else. MAJORITY rules — not in America: rich minority rules.
But it today’s America, MAJORITY means NOTHING. It doesn’t matter if a MAJORITY of the citizens or even a MAJORITY of their elected representative want something. It only matters what a very small rich, greedy, privileged minority wants. And as history has shown repeatedly, the small powerful minority will only relinquish power through force by the will of a extremely pissed off MAJORITY.
In California, elections are farcical. For example, in the upcoming 2010 elections there will be a series of ballot initiatives that will appear on the ballots. These are not what citizens want; instead, they are what a small number of powerful and rich people pay people to collect signatures on. These people will do anything they have to, including falsifying signatures, to get the requisite signatures to qualify for a ballot measure. These people are trying to work to pay for their families. Then, the privileged rich class will flood the media with all sorts of nonsense and misleading ads to get people to vote for the measures. This is how Proposition 8 was DEFEATED in California by the wacko religious crown — the population was manipulated into submission. Plus, non-Presidential elections are a great time to get some stupid piece of shit passed.
But California is hardly the only states that is unable to hold fair elections. How about Florida? Ohio? Or one of the countless other states where there are corrupt election officials that purge voter roles. I am certain elections are literally rigged with the paperless and audit-less voting machines — made by a bunch of rich people. Yes, the Founders would be proud — they would demand to know when the country was overtaken!
The founder never foresaw corporations controlling the country — or how our politicians would be just puppets in the hands of their corporate overlords. The founders would be shocked that there are eight Health Insurance Lobbyists for each member of Congress. Seems a bit much to me since at least half of the Congress couldn’t be more in bed with health insurance companies if they tried.
The next time you hear about America being a Democracy — just laugh and ask the person what America they talking about. Certainly, not the America of the Blair House today. Certainly not the America of the US Senate. This is some make believe America — something you tell children who are too young to understand the shocking truth that America is a cesspool of corruption where democracy is just a myth.
America is doomed.
I’ll certainly agree with you about Californicate. But remember, it is the land of “fruits and nuts”. Other states are also screwed up, but nothing like Californicate, except maybe New Dork. I lived there for about 6 years and won’t even go back to visit friends. They need to come to the sunny South if they want to see me. I wouldn’t want to spend any money in New Dork, becasue that might help them out and lengthen the time before they collapse. Then there is always Assachewsucks. Ever been there? They neeed to put a fence around that sucker with the razor wire at the top facing in. ’nuff said. We all pick our own poisons in life. Yes, America is a cesspool. But even in a cesspool, there are “floaters and sinkers”. Some parts of the pool stink more than others, like New Joisey. Now see, I have just named 4 or 5 states where I will never set foot.
All democracies fail and devolve. Sharia is “democratic.” Vote to stone her! Done! Two wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner is democracy.
We have a constitutional republic. The governments are supposed to be limited in power by design – no matter what the majority wants. The majority cant vote for my property and get it. Thats why they fail. You need protections.
