america needs to do a couple of things like the rest of the world

* build houses out of brick and morter. That would solve the natural disaster issue, somewhat, and would create also economic stability, but then again, how would HomeDepot live and thrive? hahahaha lol. Because HD has lobbyists in the House of Lords.

* lower prices on food

* educate people about eating nutritious food, like barley, and drinking red wine.

* get rid of DUI (driving under the influence) laws, because they, 80% of the time affect men, and we like to drink. In my opinion, its a anti-man law. Plus, accidents happen more because of aggressive drivers, not drunk ones. Utah, my state being the best example of that.

* the american “Rome” mental concept needs to be got ridden of completely, because, what happened to “Rome”, it fell apart.

Rick, yes I have considered Brazil and have visited it many times since 1983. I love the people and the climate. You can have the lights of Rio or unchartered jungles in the Amazon. Crime is high in Rio, but it is high in Chicago, Miami, Baltimore, and really high in Detroit. There are just areas that you don’t go into like any big city on the planet. Brazil is on my “look list”. The thing that scares me about Panama, which is a relatively undiscovered gem, is that they use the dollar as their currency. And the dollar is dead, with no hope of revival. The patient can’t be revived!!!! I own gold and can convert it into any currency. Brazil is a resource rich country that is no longer 3rd World, not that I would care anyway. America is third world. We imported it and produced alot of it on our own, but we did it to ourselves. I’ll always stay “connected on this great blogsite because the people (few as they may be) can see light. They can cut through the bullshit!!! I wish everyone great health. Dinner tonight? Lettuce, cabbage, green onions from my organic garden. And wild caught Alaskan salmon, baked, with mandarin sauce from my own Satsuma trees (organic). No cancer could stand an assault like that. For desert, about 100 supplements and an hour of weight lifting. Goodbye cancer!!!

Actually Mongoose I have to concede you are right about America’s magnanimous nature. We are indeed a generous country. How generous it was of us to ship most of our manufacturing jobs overseas so that Asian children can grow up working 80 hour weeks in sweatshops at $1/hr. How nice it was of us to drop thousands of bombs on Iraq just because Saddam was a bad guy. And how kind of us to forgive the debt of so many third world countries but only if they hand over control of their public utilities and factories to major US corporations(read “confessions of an Economic hitman”). But above all else nothing can top The generosity of handing out 700 billion dollars to banks. I mean wow there may be a record number of homeless in America now and U-6 unemployment may be close to 20% but who cares. There are plenty of cardboard boxes and dumpsters for shelter(and dumpsters provide food as well—They are quite a bargain for the poor). But oh good forbid what would it say about our society, our compassion, our sense of decency if some guy on wall street could not afford a third mansion? I mean after all they have done for this country with their promotion of outsourcing, downsizing and subprime loans how could we not thank them?

Sorry that is typical America B.S that has been fed to us for decades. I too have been outside the US so don’t lecture me about my ‘parochial views’. So put away your rubber finger that says “USA is #1″ and consider what we are number one at these days. We are number 1 among industrial nations in suicide, crime, Homelessness, infant mortality, The disparity between rich and poor, number of incarcerated, poverty and single parenting. America was a great nation once but it is no more. The rah rah stuff doesn’t work here–us it at a baseball stadium. As for the great secondary education in the United States, well tell that to the thousands of IT professionals and Engineers in America who spent fortunes on secondary education only to see their jobs being sent to India and China. So get your PHD so that in 10 years you’ll be educated enough to take my order at mcd’s

there are lot of problems here but if you think that they’re unique to this country or that this country is falling apart compared with the rest of the world, you haven’t traveled enough recently. most of the rest of the world is a shit hole. our supposed global competitors, china and india, are overpopulated, dirty, and on the verge of economic, infrastructural, and resource collapse. russia is a shithole. Europe, as usual, likes to make big claims about their strength but give me a break. have you been to any of those disfunctional countries lately? No one gets anything done, they fight all the time, and their people are 10 times more lazy than here. they like to cite statistics about their wellbeing etc, but they have less than half of the people and far less diversity than we have here.

i’m not justifying the corruption on wall street, for example, or the inability of our government to regulate pharm and medical equipment companies in order to lower health care costs. illegal immigration is ridiculous and we are paying part of our taxes as forced charitable donations to send people from other countries to our schools. your problem, though, is that you don’t appreciate what we DO have here.
we still have second to NONE secondary education. we have second to NONE, incredible infrastructure in terms of roads, electricity, water, etc. (albeit some of it is degrading during this recession), we have innumerable and incomparable resources, and most importantly, people who give a damn about the rest of the world. trust me, if another world war breaks out, you can be assured the vast majority of people everywhere are going to be hoping that WE win. Despite george bush’s fuck up in iraq we are still THE most magnanimous country in the world, donating more to world and local causes than anywhere else and we still are the first people to step in when shit gets out of control. people like to give america shit when things go bad elsewhere, but i ask you, where was europe when the genocides in the balkans broke out, or when africa went apeshit, or when the taliban blew up the world trade center? i guarantee you, if big ben goes down the US will have more fucking troops than england and the rest of the fucking world combined to protect them. we are STILL a shining light, and the reason we STILL have economic and military dominion is because we use it for good more than we use it for evil.

You want to prove kennedy right? Step up to the fucking plate and get involved. this is time of opportunity to change our country’s direction, and we need people who give a damn.

While i haven’t always agreed entirely with what you say I have always respected both your opinion and your ability to see what so many still fail to see: That there is something really wrong with this country and no amount of polishing the turd will turn it into a rose. Good luck with your treatment and I’m glad to see you are doing well. Honestly, have you considered Brazil?(I am considering that country myself…a growing economy, a serious effort to end poverty through genuine employment, 100% energy independance, beautiful weather and the ladies too are nothing to scoff at)

Both of you make alot of sense. It’s about time we agreed on something, even if I am a gun toting nut who lives on an island and shoots wild hogs to give to those who are more unfortunate than me. Both of you have hit the nail on the head this time. Rick, you did a bang up job of explaining the “new” American corporation. GDP growth with no or contracting job growth!!! And America Doomed, you clearly see the healthcare reform bullshit. This is beyond a joke. It is an obscenity. This is clownish type behavior. The theater of the absurd. All they needed to do for now was extend medicare coverage to everybody. It would not have created a new bureaucracy and prices could have been easily controlled. But Fuck no!!! Obama is a goon. I voted for this turd and he is a floater. Can’t get rid of him even after 2 flushes. He is a corporate schill. I continue to treat my prostate cancer through the use of holistic medicine, herbalism, homeopathy, and diet. I am doing quite well and don’t look like Patrick Swayze or Steve Jobs. Planted my garden today. Broccoli, collards, cauliflower, cabbage, garlic, cilantro, 5 types of lettuce, mesclun, endive. I still keep the internet active to watch the fall of America. We are in the process and I expect it to accelerate more on a daily basis. They have begun “dozing” Detroilet. Filthadelphia, Memphis, Baltsamos, and Pittsburg (of all places, I thought Pburgh was in fairly good shape. They took their ass rheeming years ago) will soon follow. They are now scheduled. The new term for the devestation is “Urban prarie”. I call it “urban desert”, as in the Sahara. The city of Chicago tried to auction several houses today for one dollar, Yes! $1.00 and there weren’t any bidders. What are we ever going to do with all of these “refugees”? Dominican and Panama look better by the day. I’m still good for a while on my little piece of Georgia coast. Stay healthy, all.

It amazes me to no end how people fail to see that with globalization firmly entrenched the GDP no longer reflects the condition of the working class. Remember the recession of 2001? it ended in November 2001. For the next two years GDP grew at a steady rate while the economy shed nearly 2 million more jobs than it created. Truth of the matter is, corporations that do the hiring no longer need American workers. They can always outsource jobs overseas where they cang et good quality employees for a fraction of the cost of American workers. For jobs that cannot be outsourced there are illegal immigrants and foreigners on h1 work visas that can be imported. Businesses are more than happy to basically enslave people for the sake of profit.
Consider this scenario:
a factory that employs 2000 Americans at $17 per hour. The company decides to send those jobs overseas to say Malaysia. The Malaysian factory workers are willing to work at $3/hr. The factory can employ 4x as many Malaysians, increase output by 4x- sell 4 times as much product(All contributing to GDP as long as the factory maintains some capacity in the US) and still pay out less than if the 2000 American workers had been kept.
As for the Americans who lost their jobs while it is true that they can no longer afford the products American corporations sell, it matters nothing to the businesses. They can simple sell more products overseas where the middle class is growing by leaps and bounds. China has now as many middle class people as the United States, then there is the Inidan middle class, the Brazilians, etc etc.
So US businesses get richer, the GDP goes up and more Americans relocate from nice cushy homes to cardboard boxes or dumpsters.
Gotta love the new economy…
