What better example of America Doomed could there be than today’s article from the Washington Post.  Even though the federal government poured in $TRILLIONS to banks and financial institutions, these institutions are now bigger and even more vulnerable.  Plus, there continues to be thousands of smaller banks which are on the verge of collapse.  Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve, Treasury, and FDIC are even less equipped to handle the collapse of these financial institutions.

There is no saving America.  It is going to collapse — and as they say — great will be the fall.  Yet, still people think the capitalism is a system endowed by god as the best way to run the economic affairs of mankind.  Just as their belief in fake god, they are equally nuts believing in capitalism which is predominately based on greed — privileging the rich at the expense of everybody else.

Capitalism use to be better when it could produce plenty of jobs — certainly jobs for everybody who needed one.  No more — there are just not enough jobs and many jobs can be eliminated or outsourced largely as a result of technology and greed based laws that promote outsourcing.  Just as the experts are talking about a job-less recovery — as if there could be a recovery without jobs for ordinary America.  What they are talking about is the silly movement on worthless paper as stocks, commodities, financial assets, and derivatives are manipulated.  Economics is not just about markets and systems of commerce — it is about ordinary people functioning in the society and supporting themselves — it is about providing food, clothing, housing, education, health care, and transportation to ordinary people.

Obama just doesn’t get what is happening as he wanders off to New York to give another one of his talks to people that are so much into greed, they would rather look at stock charts than care for their families — much less the millions of other countrymen who go without every day.  People who cannot get health care or housing or food or education … these are the real Americans who will one day get tired of living in poverty or near poverty and begin to take back the country.

Until then, there will be more people like Obama — saying much — and delivering very little.  By any measure, you have to view Obama’s presidency to date as a complete disaster.  Sure, lots of great speeches and ideas but in practice very little accomplished — much better than Bush, of course, but Obama still has not affected the lives of ordinary Americans to the extent that the election suggested.  He won’t either.  He has sold out to the corporate interests — he has drank the kool aid — and he is an embarrassment to his ideals.

America is doomed.

America Disintegrating — One Person At a Time

On September 13, 2009, in doomed, by admin

The NY Times ran a story about how not being able to pay a $10 car registration, sent a woman with a life off a cliff to homeless shelters with harsh realities.  America has failed for millions of people already.  There is no safety net.  There is no help to keep a job with an emergency loan.  There is only the harsh reality that without money — money when you need it — millions and millions of people are at risk of losing everything.

As Jobs Are Lost in Recession, So Is the Middle Class – NYTimes.com.

In rich neighborhoods, people drive horribly.  There are many reasons for this.  First, rich people feel entitled to act like asses and believe their money will buy them out of everything.  But also, fines are not punitive for rich people.  Run a red light in a rich neighborhood, and it will cost $400 — nothing to a rich person.   To a poor person, it can destroy his life.  All fines need to be calibrated based on ability to pay.  To a poor person, a fine of $10 may be a monumental task.  For a rich person, the fine may need to be $100,000 or more to get their attention.

In fact, if everybody paid fines appropriate for their ability to pay, there would be much more justice — and isn’t it justice that we are seeking?

When I read stories about how a $10 fee turns into a $1600 fee and causes a person to lose their job, home, and everything they have worked for, I realize that America is headed for a crash landing soon.  How angry could a person be to lose everything over a $10 fee?   What might this person do?  Take it out on the people who caused it?  Take it out on a system that would let a $10 fee translate into a destroyed life?

Well, multiply this by millions, because everyday more and more people are falling between the cracks of America society.  A society that makes it clear at every turn, that without plenty of money, you are nobody.  You don’t count.  Nobody cares about you.  There is no safety net.  You are on your own and if you don’t play by each and every rule — even the $10 rules — you are risking everything.

This is one reason health care reform is so important.  If you get sick enough, you will likely be wiped out.  The vast majority of personal bankruptcies are because people got sick and couldn’t pay medical bills.  And yes, people are going to get sick but the for profit health insurance companies, love to insure young, health people who don’t make claims.  Once you are on the path of serious disease, these same companies will figure out a way to dump you.  They are very good at dumping sick people — they excel at that.

I can hear it now from Limbaugh, Palin, Hannity, and a long list of asshole Republicans — well, the woman should have paid the $10 fee — $10 is nothing.  Well, it is nothing for people who make millions spreading hate.  It is nothing for many people in society, but for some people it is everything as they struggle surviving in a society where it is easy to drop through the cracks and to end up in such an abyss there is no getting out of it.

America is doomed.

Consumer Economy is Dead

On September 8, 2009, in doomed, by admin

Once again, somebody else is lining up behind America Doomed and declaring — this time — the consumer economy is dead.  Of course, Wall Street is just cruising around with fake higher prices.  The banks got loads of money and ordinary American citizens were fucked again.

A year after financial crisis, the consumer economy is dead | McClatchy.

President Obama needs to get out of his ivory tower and get real — this economy is for shit and it isn’t going to get any better — ditto for health care reform.   Rich people are doing great and the rest of the country is in the crapper.  Don’t forget — the rich people I speak of include considerable numbers of elected democrats.  Let’s call them fake democrats — people who claim they are for the ordinary Americans but are only for policies that enrich corporations.  Like Bush — a corporation pretending to be a person.  Well, there are plenty of clones of that in Congress.

Michael Moore is right — American capitalism is about greed — it is dead — nobody has enough sense to bury the failed policies of the past.  Instead, the Federal Reserve, Congress, Treasury, and even Obama keep trying to prop up a disaster — and one that will continue to get worse.  Either the country wakes up or the ordinary citizens will have no other choice than to take their plight to the streets of America.

America is doomed.

Michael Moore is a great film maker, American, and humanitarian — now he has another great film — about my favorite subject — failed capitalism.

Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” Premieres In Venice To Great Reviews.

There is no doubt that American capitalism has failed — the private system has not created any net new jobs for the last 10 years — millions of jobs were even lost in the current financial crisis — these jobs are not coming back.  It will take decades to just get back to the employment levels prior to this current crisis — not even accounting for the population growth.

America needs an entirely new economic model.  The current one rewards greed and corruption to privilege the few at the expense of the many.   Many people, increasing all the time, with full time jobs cannot survive in this economy.  Young people cannot find jobs even after getting a high quality and expensive education.  America is literally witnessing a melt down in the political and social fabric of the country.

Meanwhile, Republicans are the party of the status quo — no, no, no to any proposals.  They don’t want to change anything because they are already rich and comfortable.  The Republicans who are not rich are either stupid or religious — and frequently both.

If health care reform fails to truly reform a dysfunctional system, there will be an even greater outcry from the streets.  There will be marches on Washington DC and every other large city in the country.  People understand the consequences of no health care reform and they are going to be pissed.   The Republicans are so stupid they think this will be a great victory to defeat health care reform.

America is doomed.

America is having a “jobless recovery” — this absurd little phrase is the latest rich people idea of economic prosperity.  So, with the headline unemployment rate at 9.7% which is a total deception, the real unemployment rate some say is near 17% but likely closer to 25%.  Now, even the employed are so poorly paid, they are turning to food stamps for survive.

US families turn to food stamps as wages drop.

Let the country complain about socialism; however, make no mistake America is heading there at a rapid rate.  When people cannot make enough wages to support themselves and have to turn to food stamps, this is clearly socialism.  What is the alternative?  Let them starve to death?  Clearly, this would be just fine with the privilege, greedy and rich in America but as the numbers continue to increase among the poor, socialism is the solution.

At some point there will be minimum laws — minimum housing, food, health care and transportation.  We need these laws now.  But there is a last ditch effort to avert minimum health care as the Republicans try to keep the greedy, for profit health insurance industry — the very industry who literally kills people every day, in every significant city in America.

Obama’s Wednesday health care speech will be an opportunity for him to do something big.  If I was him, I would point out how dysfunctional Congress has been with health care reform.   I would say that enough is enough and propose a simple Medicare For All plan.  It will be a very simple proposal — let anybody sign up for original Medicare that wants to.  Let people keep their for  profit private health insurance companies if they want.  But, also let anybody sign up for Medicare who wants to.  Everybody knows what will happen — Americans without insurance and millions and millions of people with health insurance will seek out Medicare.  Meanwhile, original Medicare will get better — private health insurance will go away.  The only real solution to health care is government run single payer insurance.

Let the greedy Republicans scream all they want.  As the unemployed numbers increase, as the number of people on food stamps increase, the greedy rich will have to get more and more extreme.  More crazies will emerge from the right with their stupid ideas about guns, religion and survivalism.

America is doomed.
